Geffrey van der Bos ("me", "I", or "my") operates the www.geffrey.io website (the "Website").

This page informs you of my policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use my Website and the choices you have associated with that data.

I use this data to provide and improve this website. By using this website, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

I collect several different types of information for various purposes to provide and improve my Website to you. However, I am committed to protecting your privacy and believe that you should have control over your private data. I will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.

I recommend that you read this Privacy Policy in full to ensure you are fully informed. The responsible data controller on geffrey.io and all related services is Geffrey van der Bos:

Types of Data Collected

I don’t collect personal information about you on this website. IP addresses, which are a requirement of data transfer between servers on the internet, are not logged on the server. In the unlikely event that I do collect personally identifiable data, I will remove this from the server as soon as I realise.

Secure Data Transfer (HTTPS)

To the best of my ability, I make sure this website transmits all data using HTTPS, encrypting all data between the browser and the server. Your network provider may still be able to see that you are loading files from geffrey.io, but not the content of these requests. If you are concerned about this, feel free to use a Virtual Private Network solution to browse this website.

Do Not Track Compliance

I support the right of the Do Not Track ("DNT"). Do Not Track is a preference you can set in your web browser to inform websites that you do not want to be tracked. If you enable Do Not Track, I will not collect any anonymous usage statistics with my analystics tool Matomo (see below).

Cookies and Other Storage Technologies

Cookies are small files that are stored on the hard disk of a visitor. They allow information to be kept for a certain period of time and to identify the visitor's computer. In order to provide, operate, and maintain this website, I may use session cookies, which are automatically deleted when you close your browser. Additionally, certain functional cookies might be used to store information about the state of the system, like for example, if the CSS files are already downloaded and cached in the browser. I do not store any cookies that contain personal information or let me identify you in any other way.

Analytics and Anonymous Usage Statistics

This website uses the first-party open source web analytics platform Matomo (formerly known as Piwik). This service is hosted on my own server, so no visitor data is being transferred to other servers. I use Matomo to measure, collect, analyse and report visitors data for purposes of understanding and optimizing this website. All visitors’ IP addresses are anonymized (removing the last two bytes) and all first party cookies are disabled by default. So no personal data is collected. Visitor logs are automatically deleted after 30 days. For more information see the Matomo privacy policy as well:

Matomo (Formerly known as Piwik)

Piwik or Matomo is a web analytics service. You can visit their Privacy Policy page here: https://matomo.org/privacy-policy

Links To Other Sites

This Website may contain links to other sites that are not operated by me. If you click on a third party link, you will be directed to that third party's site. I strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit.

We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third party sites or services.

Webmentions

Webmentions are a mechanism used to notify other websites when you refer to them on your own website. Your server sends a signal to this server, which then verifies that your content indeed links back to this site. By supporting Webmentions on your website, you explicitly signal your wish for linked websites to process and publish your public replies to their content. You can request the removal of one or all webmentions originating from your website at any time.

Processing of incoming Webmentions

Incoming Webmentions are handled as a request to process personal data that you make available by explicitly providing metadata in your website's markup. As an additional measure, all incoming Webmentions on this website undergo a manual assessment that the sender is actively processing Webmentions themselves. Personal data processed includes your name, profile picture from your Website or gravatar.com, the URL of your website, and personal information that you may have included in you post. The processing of incoming Webmentions is based on the legitimate interest to enable interaction with the readers of this website (Art. 6(1) lit. f GDPR), following the design intention of the Webmention protocol.

Publishing of incoming Webmentions

Commonly, received webmentions are displayed as comments on a web page. This means that a copy of your content is displayed on the website you link to in your own post. An incoming Webmention request is by design a request for publishing a comment from elsewhere on the web; this is what the protocol was designed for and why it is active on your website. Personal data published includes your name, profile picture from your Website or gravatar.com, the URL of your website, and personal information that you may have included in you post. The publishing of incoming Webmentions is based on the legitimate interest to enable interaction with the readers of this website (Art. 6(1) lit. f GDPR), following the design intention of the Webmention protocol.

Children's Privacy

This Website does not address anyone under the age of 18 ("Children").

I do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 18. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your Children has provided me (in any way possible) with Personal Data, please contact me. If I become aware that I have collected Personal Data from children without verification of parental consent, I take steps to remove that information from my servers. However, it is very unlikely that I have collected any Personal Data at all.

Changes To This Privacy Policy

I may update my Privacy Policy from time to time. I will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.

We will let you know via email and/or a prominent notice on my Website, prior to the change becoming effective and update the "date" at the top of this Privacy Policy.

You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
